Moving Eye Painting
In 2008 my "maker" husband hatched an idea to create a Scooby-Doo style, moving-eye painting as a birthday/Halloween gift for his sister. She's into Halloween like no one else I know, and throws incredible Halloween bashes every year.
I painted "Mr. Shifty", who is based loosely on an random 18th portrait of some old guy. John created and programmed a sensor mechanism hidden in the back of the painting that looks for motion through two pinholes in the canvas. Once triggered, the mechanism moves the eyes, which are painted on a strip of canvas attached to a track.
The project was picked up by Make and featured on their blog here.
South Park Bridge Mural
In June 2010, my friend Gina and I painted this mural on the soon-to-be decommissioned South Park Bridge. We were one of several groups of artists painting on the bridge during the an event commemorting the closing. Gina is the brains behind the project — she came up with the concept and we both worked from a reference she created. We had about 3 hours to get it done, and we used every minute. The whole evening became part party, part protest, which was covered by several local newpapers and blogs.
Umbrelope Animation
This is a short but sweet interactive Flash sample I built using a character from one of my relief etchings.
